Just been informed that there is a ‘Men’s Shed’ in Appleby, Cumbria. This is fantastic news. Is there any more in the UK?

Hi Catherine, I totally agree. I am hoping that someone might embrace this idea and lead such an initiative in the UK.

Hiya Barry, wow I didn’t know you had a Men’s Shed movement in Ireland. That is fantastic news. Am I right in thinking it is just in Northern Ireland or is it in Southern Ireland as well? I have no doubt that ‘Men’s Sheds’ are popular. How long has it been in Ireland? Is someone leading this initiative in Ireland? If so, who is it? All these questions! It’s so exciting that they are already in the UK. I am wondering if there are Men’s Sheds in England, Scotland and Wales. I really believe they should be available to all men in the UK. With regards suicide prevention/postvention in the UK; there is lots of excellent work going on, but often people in other parts of the country are not aware of it. Maybe this blog could be used as a medium to inform others of new and innovative practice etc. Would welcome your thoughts.

Hiya Denise, I am so pleased you are reading my blog. Thank you so much for informing me about the men’s sheds in County Durham. Wow, twenty plus men’s sheds and now piloting women and young person sheds or CREES as you call them (what does CREE stand for?). I would love to hear more about how they are received by their communities. In fact I am sure other people reading this blog will be also. It just shows, we have lots of interesting things going on in our country but often we don’t have a platform to share our successes/new initiatives. Maybe this blog could be used in this way. I know there are lots of exciting things going on in Durham, especially in postvention. Would love to meet up next time I visit Shirley. Hope you are able to attend our next suicide bereavement conference on the 23rd September. Speak soon, Sharon
