Hi Annessa, Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. I cannot begin to tell you the positive responses I am getting from academics, researchers, clinicians and bereavement charities about this initiative. You are so right about the Public Health and Well Being agendas. My only problem is most of my contacts are with clinicians, researchers and bereavement charities. I am hoping this blog will help to engage with public health. I am going to use this blog to keep people up-to-date with my progress, the studies I am conducting etc. I also think this blog could be used as a platform for agencies and people bereaved by suicide to come together, learn from each other and debate issues.

You might also be interested to know that there is international interest in this venture. Specifically, from researchers in Australia and America. the UK has been miles behind all other countries when it comes to taking care of those bereaved by suicide. Well, hopefully, not for much longer! We just need a few passionate people in this field who are not phased by obstacles and we can move mountains. I think a good starting point would be to inform people widely of this blog, so we can identify who is interested in this field and the University of Manchester’s next suicide bereavement conference on the 23rd September 2014. Take care, Sharon

Oh Anne, thank you so much for your lovely message. Such kind words. I cannot thank you enough for your encouragement about the development of the suicide bereavement research unit. Equally, I have so much respect for the work that you have done to improve the care for the mentally ill. We all do our bit. Together we will make a difference. Big hug, Sharon x
